Project overview
The Shoal Bay carpark is being upgraded and formalised. A modern carpark is being constructed, inclusive of new kerb and gutters, new pavement and asphalt surfacing, line marked parking spaces, landscaped areas, and rain gardens for water quality purposes.
The carpark will provide 100 formalised parking spaces and include Smart Parking as part of the broader Shoal Bay Smart Parking rollout. It will also include a dedicated shared path connecting the shared path behind the Shoal Bay Holiday Park with the intersection of Government Road/Shoal Bay Road.
An external civil contractor will deliver the construction work, which is forecast to start in mid 2025 and take approximately 12 weeks.
Sustainable tree management
As part of the carpark upgrades, we’ll create a more sustainable green space.
To achieve this, we’ll be removing the non-native trees from the carpark and 5 of the existing native trees however, we’ll be replanting 8 new, advanced native trees in their place.
The removal of existing trees will reduce the impact of tree roots on drainage and the parking surface, reduce the risk of damage from falling branches and allow more efficient parking and traffic flow.
