Project background
PSC was approached by South Tomaree Community Association (STCA) seeking support for a partnership with the association on providing new play facilities at Dunmore Reserve.
The existing equipment is no longer fit for purpose and requires replacement to better cater for the growing needs of the local Anna Bay Community and visitors and to provide inclusive play facilities for all to enjoy.
This project will provide play opportunities, seating and pathways for local residents and visitors to Anna Bay that are inclusive, accessible and within walking distance for nearby locals, enabling low cost access to play and recreation facilities.
The play space is currently utilised mostly by local, neighbouring residents their families and visitors. Ages most commonly using the space are toddlers accompanied by adults (parents and grandparents) and young adults.
In September 2023, local residents were informed of the playspace upgrades via a letterbox drop and site signage.
Playground survey summary
A survey was conducted in 2023 for the proposed new Dunmore Avenue playground. Below is a summary of what we heard:
- There were 62 respondents with a strong representation of those completing the survey being parents (64%) followed by Grandparents (19%)
- Most people use the area for the playground (70%) whilst some other notable responses include using the park for its peacefulness (sitting quietly) and kicking a ball in the open spaces
- The 3 most important features that would help people enjoy the new play space were:
- Toddler play equipment 64%
- Kids bike track 40%
- Picnic table setting 30%
- Favourite ways of play include:
- Sliding 77%
- Swinging 75%
- Climbing 63%
- Imaginative/Sensory play 45%
- Spinning 37%
- Some consistency in suggestions for how the play space could be used in the future:
- A playground that caters for all - toddler friendly equipment and equipment for older kids
- Seating including picnic tables for families
- Fencing the park to safe guard kids from the road (particularly with it being on a corner)
- Maintain the shadiness of the park
