Project overview

The development of a new visitor interchange was identified as part of the Birubi Point Management Plan. Since this time, in partnership with key stakeholders, we've worked to source funding for the construction of the Birubi Point Tourism Transport Interchange.

The design of the facility includes:

  • a centralised tour coach parking area and tourism operator interchange
  • short-term car parking
  • toilet facilities
  • all-weather protection
  • multilingual signage and interpretation.

Over the past year, we've been working with neighbouring landowners including the Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council to investigate options to manage naturally occurring sand migration onto the proposed development site that would otherwise cause significant maintenance issues for the development. This involves re-using sand proposed to be excavated to create sand dunes adjacent to the development that will slow down and potentially stop sand from blowing onto the development site.

In consultation with the Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council, Crown Lands, Worimi Conservation Lands, and NSW National Parks, we're in the process of obtaining necessary planning approvals for design changes necessary to accommodate the management of naturally occurring sand migration while minimising the impact the works will have on Aboriginal heritage. The planning approvals include modifying the approved Development Application (DA) for Birubi Point Tourism Transport Interchange.
