Port Stephens Youth Sector

An online hub for youth service providers, organisations, community groups and schools who support young people in Port Stephens. Our primary focus will be to share and exchange information that is relevant to our work with young people. To this end the on line platform can be used to support the work of the Port Stephens Youth Inter-agency membership. The platform will also provide Council a way of promoting and keeping up to date on local activity that has relevance to the key actions in the Ports Stephens Youth Plan.

Tell us how you or an organization your involved with is using open spaces in Port Stephens to connect young people to their community.

Tomaree Youth Community Action (TYCA iNC) has been around since 2010 and has gone some changes over the years. From around 2014 TYCA restarted the Port Stephens Snak & Rap program, once run by Council, taking our outreach youth engagement program to skate parks across the LGA.  We offer safe areas for young people and community to gather, and give the young people a chance to talk about what's going on in their community and anything they would like to see happen.. The events involve free style rapping, hip hop inspired art workshops (the rap) and always a bbq cooked by a local group, often a lions Club (the Snak).

We have developed this program in line with Council's Youth Strategy that includes actions to provide safe and appropriate places to learn, develop and interact with others through localized events and activities, as well as involving young people in the planning of and up keep of public spaces.
