Port Stephens Annual Awards

Consultation has concluded

Council values the outstanding contributions made everyday within the Port Stephens community. The Port Stephens Annual Awards presented on Australia Day each year provide an opportunity for Council to formally recognise the amazing efforts of groups and individuals from around the region.

The Award categories are:

  • Freeman of Port Stephens
  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Port Stephens Medal
  • Sportsperson of the Year
  • Cultural Endeavour

The purpose of the Port Stephens Annual Awards Policy is to recognise groups and individuals that contribute to the achievement of Council's vision.

Council at its meeting of 24 April 2018 resolved to exhibit the Port Stephens Annual Awards Policy which has been reviewed and amended as below:

Each individual category was named in the background section of the policy. This did not include the new category of Cultural Endeavour.

This is to be replaced with a general statement (see below)

"The peak award is the Freeman of Port Stephens, followed by the Citizen of the Year, the Young Citizen of the Year, and other awards that acknowledge social, cultural and environmental achievements."

The policy will be on exhibition from Monday 4 June 2018 to Sunday 1 July 2018 at the following locations:

  • Council's Administration Building, 116 Adelaide Street, Raymond Terrace (during normal business hours).
  • Tomaree Library, Town Centre Circuit, Salamander Bay.
  • Download from the document library on the right.

You can provide a submission on the policy below and you are also invited to complete a short survey about amendments to the Policy. Alternatively, you can provide a formal submission through our standard public exhibition process as seen on Council's website here.
