Nelson Bay Town Centre and Foreshore

Nelson Bay is a significant town centre in Port Stephens, not only for the visitor economy but also for local residents. Since its adoption in 2012, the Nelson Bay Town Centre and Foreshore Strategy (the Strategy) has sought ‘to guide Nelson Bay towards becoming more attractive to tourists, the business community and residents’.

Nelson Bay Parking Survey

Transport planning, including parking, is an essential part of revitalising the town centre and foreshore of Nelson Bay, maintaining retail and professional services in the centre, and retaining it as one of the primary tourist centres for the region.

The Nelson Bay parking survey is a key part of the establishment of the independent Nelson Bay Citizens Parking Panel. Survey responses will be used to inform the Panel and Council about community views on a range of potential options for parking in Nelson Bay. The establishment of the independent Nelson Bay Citizens Parking Panel is a key action from the Nelson Bay Delivery Program that has been expedited in response to submissions that raised parking as an important issue.

The University of Technology Sydney’s Centre for Local Government (UTS) will conduct a random community telephone survey from Monday the 10 September 2018 until Monday 8 October to get a representative sample of views on parking in Nelson Bay Town Centre.

For interested people and businesses that want to participate but are not selected for the telephone survey, the same survey is available below.

During the survey period, UTS will also be doing on the ground interviews in Nelson Bay on Sunday 30 September 2018, to capture responses from visitors and community members, and business owners.
