There’s help for people directly affected by the March 2021 floods in New South Wales.

The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment is a lump sum payment of $1,000 for eligible adults and $400 for each eligible child under the age of 16.

You can get it if your home has been severely damaged or destroyed or if you’ve been seriously injured as a direct result of the floods.

You can also claim Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA) if you’ve lost income as a direct result of the floods. If you’re eligible you can get it for up to 13 weeks, starting from the date you lose income.

Women NSW COVID-19 Sexual, Domestic & Family Violence Infrastructure Grant Program - Tranche 3

Women NSW's COVID-19 Sexual, Domestic and Family Violence Infrastructure Grant Program aims to support sexual, domestic and family violence services, including organisations working with perpetrators to respond to the challenges posed by COVID-19.

This one-off grant funding is available for projects that fall within the following categories:

1. Acquisition of land or buildings suitable for the provision of frontline services.
2. Construction of new accommodation suitable for the provision of frontline services.
3. Refurbishment, repurposing and improvement of buildings from which frontline services are delivered. This may include projects such as:
4. improving access for people with disability,
5. creating spaces for children such as outdoor areas, playgrounds, games rooms or healing and wellness rooms,
6. upgrade to existing kitchens, bathrooms, living areas/ bedrooms, office,
7. constructing or installing new spaces or demolishing existing buildings,
8. building additions or upgrades at women’s shelters and other frontline,
9. expansion of existing dwellings, including refurbishments and repurposing buildings, and land clearance and site works
10. construction of ramps or parking spots/spaces etc., and
11. painting, plumbing, roofing or electrical services.

The funds cannot be used for non-infrastructure initiatives, staffing (except as part of the delivery of the infrastructure e.g. for trades persons) or ongoing operational costs.

The minimum grant is $25,000; there is no maximum.

To be eligible for funding, applicants must currently;

1. provide a direct and frontline service to people experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, sexual, domestic and family violence; or provide services or programs for perpetrators, as part of their overall service delivery model; and
2. be established in NSW and operational.

Eligible applicants may include not-for-profit organisations including community organisations and/or faith-based organisations.

Feed Appeal 2021 Grants Program Share

The Feed Appeal grants program is focused on supporting local charities to deliver effective and targeted food relief programs to their local community. Funding requests must directly impact, improve, and build the capacity, capability and/or efficiency of your food relief program.

Feed Appeal invests in programs and projects that improve the lives of people experiencing hunger or food insecurity. Funding helps organisations meet the demand and alleviate food insecurity in their local community.

Grant programs open:

Grassroots Grants: focused on minor infrastructure, commercial quality kitchen equipment and capacity building training that will help organisations meet the demand and alleviate food insecurity in their community. Grassroots funding requests of between $5,000-$25,000 are available in this program.

Major Projects Grants: funding for major infrastructure, capital investment, transportation and/or logistics project that will help organisations meet the demand and alleviate food insecurity in their community. Funding requests of between $25,000-$50,000 are available in this program.

Feed Appeal Food Staples (PFD) Grants: focused on short term support to help community food relief access food staples for their meals, pantry and hamper programs. Funding requests of $5,000 or $10,000 are available in this program.

The Boosting Female Founders Initiative - Round 2

The Boosting Female Founders Initiative - Round 2 helps female entrepreneurs overcome the disadvantages faced in getting access to finance and support to grow their startups. Targeted support will be on a co-contribution basis.

Tourism Grants for Indigenous Business

The Tourism Grants for Indigenous Business funding round aims to increase the number of Indigenous-owned tourism products available in the market. This grant round will support Indigenous-owned tourism businesses and Indigenous-owned community organisations to plan for or grow their new/existing tourism businesses within the tourism sector.

Up to $50,000 will be available for Indigenous-owned businesses and up to $100,000 will be available for Indigenous-owned community organisations.

Eligibility:

Grant recipients must be a 50 per cent or more Indigenous-owned entity. Up to $50,000 will be available for Indigenous-owned tourism businesses and up to $100,000 will be available for Indigenous-owned community organisations.

Applicants must meet all eligibility criteria outlined in the Tourism Grants for Indigenous Business Opportunity Guidelines.

Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment

If you’re eligible you’ll get:

1. $1,000 per adult
2. $400 for each child younger than 16.

If you’re a member of a couple, you can both claim this payment. You and your partner will need to make separate claims.

To get it you must meet all of the following:

1. you're an Australian resident or hold an eligible visa
2. you're 16 years or older at the time of the flood or getting a social security payment
3. you meet Local Government Area (LGA) requirements
4. you haven't already got an Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment for the New South Wales Floods, March 2021.

You also must have been adversely affected by the flood. For example:

1. you were seriously injured
2. you're the immediate family member of an Australian citizen or resident who died or is missing
3. you're the principal carer of a dependent child who's experienced any of the above
4. the flood significantly damaged your principal place of residence.

Examples of significant damage to your principle place of residence can include:

1. it’s been destroyed or must be demolished
2. it’s been declared structurally unsound
3. the flood has caused major damage to the interior
4. the flood has exposed the interior to the elements
5. sewage has contaminated the interior
6. the flood has significantly damaged a major asset or assets you own at your property.

How to claim

1. call us on 180 22 66 where we can take your claim – This is the fastest method of claiming
2. Completed the attached Form (Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment – NSW Floods March 2021)

and fax it to 1300 727 760 or post to:

You may need to give us evidence to show you can get this payment. For example, proof of hospital admission or damage to your principal place of residence.

If you’re having trouble getting these documents you should still submit a claim without delay. You can give us your supporting documents within 28 days.

You may also need to confirm your identity. We’ll tell you how to do it during the claim process.

You'll need to give us 1 document showing Proof of Birth or Proof of Arrival in Australia. Or, you can give us any combination of approved documents that add up to the value of 50 points. This includes:

1. driver licence - 40 points
2. bank card or bank statement - 40 points
3. Medicare card - 20 points.

Disaster Recovery Allowance

Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA) is a short term payment to help you if a declared disaster directly affects your income.

You can get it for a maximum of 13 weeks. We’ll pay this from the date you lose income as a direct result of the New South Wales floods in March 2021.

DRA is a taxable payment. You can ask us to withhold voluntary tax deductions from your payments.

If you get DRA you might be able to get Beneficiary Tax Offset. This may reduce the amount of tax you pay. You’ll need to contact the Australian Taxation Office to find out more.

To get it, you must also meet all of the following. You:

1. were 16 or older at the time of the disaster
2. are an Australian resident or hold an eligible visa
3. work or live in an affected Local Government Area (LGA)
4. lost income as a direct result of the disaster
5. earn less than the average weekly income in the weeks after you had this income loss.

If you’re between 16 and 21 years old, we must consider you to be independent to get this payment.

We’ll look at all of the following:

1. your income
2. your personal circumstances
3. if you’re dependent on anyone, such as an adult who has legal responsibility for your care and provides financial assistance.

We use Australian Bureau of Statistics figures to work out average weekly income. This equates to $1713.90 per week from 1 January 2021.

You can’t get DRA if you get any of the following payments during your claim period:

1. an income support payment or pension
2. Parental Leave Pay
3. Dad and Partner Pay
4. ABSTUDY living allowance
5. Farm Household Allowance
6. a Service Pension from the Department of Veterans' Affairs.

If you’re a member of a couple, you can both claim this payment. You and your partner will need to make separate claims.

The maximum payment rate is the equivalent of JobSeeker Payment or Youth Allowance, based on your circumstances. Your income before and after the floods will affect how much you get.

If you’re independent, we’ll work out your maximum rate of payment based on both your:

accommodation

personal circumstances.

What evidence you need to provide

We’ll ask you to give us evidence of your loss of income.

If you earn a salary or wage we’ll ask you for documents that show your income for the 4 weeks before the flood.

If your income changes each week we will ask you to show your income for the 8 weeks before the flood.

Evidence can include any of the following:

1. pay slips from your employer
2. bank statements showing previous bank deposits from your employer
3. a letter from your employer.

If you’re a farmer or you have a small business we'll ask you to show us many of these documents as possible:

1. profit and loss statements
2. income tax returns
3. other documents that show cash flow such as a bank statement for your business
4. trust or partnership tax return.

If you don’t have evidence, call us on 180 22 66.

IDAHOBIT 2021 Community Grants

ACON invites LGBTQ+ groups and individuals to apply for a small grant of up to $1,000 to host local IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia & Discrimination Against Intersex People) activities that increase awareness and celebration of LGBTQ+ diversity in priority settings in NSW.

Events can be held on or around IDAHOBIT 17 May 2021.

Sisters of Charity Foundation 2021 Community Grants Program

The Sisters of Charity Foundation provides charity grants of up to $15,000 to eligible applicants. They deliver practical, real world support to smaller grassroots organisations that can't find help from more traditional sources. Once accepted as an eligible applicant, they work closely with you and your organisation to understand exactly what is needed, so they can ensure you receive the best quality outcomes.

Do you need help to fight poverty, loneliness, suffering or oppression? If you don’t qualify for assistance through other existing channels, the Sisters of Charity Foundation may be able to help.

Eligibility criteria:

1. The organisation’s mission and operations, and the proposed program, are consistent with the application guidelines of the Sisters of Charity Foundation, and must make a huge difference to those in need.
2. The applicant is able to demonstrate the knowledge and the expertise necessary to implement the program as well as the skills necessary for the sustainable management of the program and the responsible stewardship of resources.
3. The applicant organisation has the support of its Board, or in the case of an individual, the proposer’s supporting authority.
4. The organisation is not-for-profit and has Income Tax Exempt Charity (ITEC) status and Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) Item 1 status.
5. The organisation’s annual income is less than $1 million.

The Sisters of Charity Foundation favours programs that:

1. provide compassion, hope and practical assistance
2. fall between the cracks of other funding sources
3. are not associated with well established organisations with significant reserves and/or are not capable of raising their own funds
4. are not eligible for funding from government or other sources.

Heart Foundation 2021 Active Australia Innovation Challenge

The Active Australia Innovation Challenge strongly encourages innovative projects that support people who do not meet Australia's Physical Activity Guidelines, people at risk of chronic disease, and people living in communities with high levels of physical inactivity. Round 2 of the Boosting Female Founders Initiative is now open

Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for Round 2 of the Boosting Female Founders (BFF) Initiative are now open.

Grants between $25,000 and $480,000 for female founded startups to expand into domestic and global markets.

Who is this for?

Female founded (majority owned and led by women) startups who wish to scale their business into domestic and global markets.

The BFF Initiative (or program) commenced in 2020 to support women entrepreneurs to help grow and scale their startups into domestic and global markets by providing access to early stage capital.

The BFF Initiative was recently expanded, providing additional funding for grants and introducing a new mentoring element to further support women entrepreneurs grow their startups. Approximately $11.6 million in grant funding is available for Round 2.

The program provides grants of between $25,000 and $400,000 on a co-contribution basis to successful applicants and is open to startups that are majority owned and led by women. Additional support is available to underrepresented groups such as women founders who:

1. are from regional or remote locations
2. identify as an Indigenous Australian
3. migrated to Australia as a refugee or humanitarian entrant
4. are a person with a disability

Regional Events Acceleration Fund

Regional NSW is blessed with a host of world-class events attracting tens of thousands of metropolitan, interstate and international visitors to regional communities each year.

Visitors not only spend money at the events themselves, but at local cafes and restaurants, service stations, bars, tourist attractions and accommodation; helping to boost our regional economies and create jobs in regional areas.

The cancellation of major events due to COVID-19 has impacted local event venues, workers and communities who rely on the influx of visitors and tourist dollars.

To support the social and economic recovery of our regions, the NSW Government’s $20 million Regional Events Acceleration Fund helps organisations to:

1. attract new major international and domestic events to regional areas
2. make existing regional events even bigger and better.

Funding will help meet the costs of attracting or retaining major events, such as premier sporting fixtures or competitions, and helps fund the operational and infrastructure improvements existing events need to increase visitation and length of stay.

The types of events eligible for funding include:

1. major sporting and lifestyle events
2. major food and beverage events
3. major music, art and culture festivals.

The funding is for events hosted in regional NSW between March 2021 and June 2022.

The Regional Events Acceleration Fund offers two streams – Major Event Operations and Infrastructure grants and Major Event Attraction and Enhancement grants.

Stream One: Major Event Operations and Infrastructure

Grants between $50,000 and $200,000 are available to support temporary event infrastructure and operational improvements at existing regional events to help increase visitation.

Examples of the types of event infrastructure and operational improvements that are eligible for funding include:

Murray-Darling Basin Economic Development Program (Round 3)

The Australian Government is inviting applications through an open competitive process to deliver projects under the Murray-Darling Basin Economic Development Program (Round 3) in eligible Murray-Darling Basin communities.

The objective of the program is to assist eligible communities to undertake economic development projects to respond to the impact of water recovery activities under the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.

The intended outcomes of the program are to: increase the capacity of eligible communities to diversify and strengthen local economies; enhance the resilience of these communities to manage current and future economic challenges and changes; and increase the opportunities for employment within these communities.

The third round of the program is open to 38 eligible communities impacted by water recovery activities under the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.

COVID-19 Aboriginal Community Organisations Grants Program - AANSW

The COVID-19 Aboriginal Community Organisations Grants Program provides small grant funding to Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) who provide culturally appropriate, locally based support to Aboriginal community members impacted by COVID-19.

This includes mental health, community wellbeing and healing, education and employment, and the provision of supplies to support compliance with health advice.

How do I apply for funding?

Interested applicants must contact their closest Aboriginal Affairs NSW office or the COVID team to discuss their project idea.

Once you have discussed your idea, and if you are eligible to apply, Aboriginal Affairs NSW will open an application for you to complete online in SmartyGrants and send you a link to this application.

You will then have 21 days to complete and submit your application for assessment.

Pride Foundation Australia (PFA) Grants for Peer-led Support Groups for LGBTQIA+ Refugees & People Seeking Asylum

Pride Foundation Australia is seeking applications from existing or new peer-led support groups for LGBTIQA+ refugees and people seeking asylum in Australia. Up to $5,000 is available for each group to be used over a 12-month period. The funding may be for regular group meetings (face-to-face and/or virtual), or for occasional gatherings, as needed locally.

Applications must be led by LGBTIQA+ refugees and/or people seeking asylum and supported by an organisation that is willing and able to host the support group. Such organisations may be LGBTIQA+ community organisations, or refugee and asylum seeker organisations, or other community-based groups. PFA can provide assistance to find an appropriate organisation if needed.

The proposed hosting organisation should agree to provide in-kind support for the group in the form of:

1. A meeting room
2. Infrastructure such as access to a computer/ on-line meeting platform for communications (e.g.Zoom) including the covering the cost
3. A staff liaison person to assist in organisation
4. Facilitating training, capacity building and support for the group facilitators
5. Facilitating access to case management and counselling support for group members as needed
6. Consideration of ongoing support after initial funding has been used

Pride Foundation Australia 2021 Small Grants Program

Pride Foundation will invest in projects that benefit either LGBTQIA+ individuals or community or strengthen LGBTQIA+ organisational capacity. The project needs to directly or indirectly assist, involve and benefit LGBTQIA+ people and promote positive social outcomes and mental health in the community.

Individuals – an application needs to satisfy at least one of the following intended outcomes. Through the project LGBTIQ community members will:

1. be more connected to each other and to their community
2. have improved skills and knowledge
3. have enhanced wellbeing and resilience
4. participate more fully in their community

Organisational capacity – an application needs to satisfy at least one of the following intended outcomes. Through the projects LGBTIQ organisation will:

1. be better able to recruit and retain volunteers and members
2. work better with the community and/or other organisations
3. improve the skills and knowledge of volunteers/members
4. develop resources it needs to undertake its work.

The planned activity must involve and benefit LGBTQIA+ members and promote positive social outcomes in the community.

Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be a citizen or permanent resident, or a community group that is operating in Australia.
2. Applicants need only be a group of people with a common interest.
3. It is preferred that individuals / groups apply through an Auspice organisation, but it is not a necessary requirement.

NAIDOC Grant funding is provided by Aboriginal Affairs NSW to support activities and events in NSW held during NAIDOC Week that celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and align with the national theme for NAIDOC Week in 2021, Heal Country!

Nepean Blue Mountains Primary Health Network (NBMPHN) Community Wellbeing Grants for Bushfire Affected Communities

We are funding these grants through the Federal Government’s response to the bushfire crisis, which is supporting the mental health, wellbeing, resilience and recovery of those affected by the 2019/20 'Black Summer' Bushfires.

Our Community Wellbeing Grants will allow communities to choose their own way to respond to the losses, anxiety and distress they have experienced, as well as actively participate in their recovery.

Who can apply?

Individuals (not organisations or businesses) directly impacted by the 2019/20 bushfires within the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury and Lithgow areas can apply for up to $1,000 to conduct a community activity in their area that meets the Grant Objectives.

Directly impacted areas include (but may not be limited to): Bell, Berambing, Bilpin, Blackheath, Clarence, Colo, Colo Heights, Dargan, Kurrajong, Kurrajong Heights, Megalong Valley, Mt Irvine, Mt Tomah, Mt Wilson, Mt Victoria, Olinda, Running Stream, St Albans, Woodford and Wolgan Valley.

Grant Applicants are responsible for carrying out the activities described in the application form and identifying an appropriate organisation that can auspice the application.

Bushfire Legal Aid Scheme - Small Business and Farmers

The Commonwealth Government has provided funding for legal assistance to NSW primary producers and small businesses dealing with legal issues relating to the 2019/2020 bushfires. Under the Scheme, private lawyers will have access to funding to provide legal services.

How does the Scheme work?

If you are an eligible small business owner or primary producer, your solicitor can apply for funding of $2000 to assist you to resolve your legal matter arising from the 2019/20 bushfires, and up to $5000 for related expenses like expert reports. Additional funding is available in reasonable circumstances.

If you have more than one bushfire related legal problem your solicitor may receive separate funding for each problem.

NAB Foundation Community Grants 2021

More Australian communities are being impacted by natural disasters as our climate changes. NAB Foundation Community Grants can help you safeguard your community with funding for projects that prepare for natural disasters, support long-term recovery and build resilience against future disasters.

You can get up to $10,000 to fund local projects aiming to do one or more of the following:

1. help people and places prepare for natural disasters
2. assist in short and long-term recovery efforts
3. build community resilience against future disasters
4. strengthen the environment to be more resilient to natural disasters
5. help communities reduce their climate risk.

Charities, social enterprises or organisations with a charitable purpose can apply for a grant to support a project, program or initiative. Examples of the kinds of initiatives that may be funded include:
