Project overview
As part of Port Stephens Council's commitment to delivering better infrastructure, we're making a significant investment in our local road network, supported by the Special Rate Variation for our ratepayers. A key focus of this funding is on vital road re-sealing and rehabilitation projects.
One of the essential upgrades we're undertaking is on Medowie Road in Campvale. This road serves as a crucial link for residents of Medowie and surrounding suburbs, and for travelers heading to Newcastle Airport, Williamtown RAAF Base, and Kooragang Island/Newcastle from the Pacific Highway.
Medowie Road has experienced numerous pavement failures in the past, leading to extensive patching and ongoing stress on the surface. As a public and school bus route, and a road heavily used by freight and other vehicles, these issues impact daily commutes and safety. Our work here aims to address these long-standing problems, providing a smoother, safer, and more durable road for everyone.
What we're doing:
Our work on Medowie Road will include:
- Wider lanes and shoulders
- New line marking
- Minor alignment changes
Traffic closures during construction
For the duration of works the northbound lane of Medowie Road between Nelson Bay Rd and Richardson Road will be closed to all traffic from 7am Monday 21 July 2025, as shown on the map below. All northbound traffic will detour around via Paul’s Corner Salt Ash. All southbound traffic will continue to travel through Medowie Road, with speed reductions in place. The detour allows the works to be completed in the most efficient way and will save motorists time by reducing the need for traffic control queues.
The work is expected to take up to 3 months, weather permitting.
