Proposed one-way street, Bonser Lane, Karuah

Image of proposed one way street proposal

Port Stephens Council is proposing to change Bonser Lane, Karuah to one-way only.

Project details

The proposal consists of changing the road arrangement from two-way traffic to one-way traffic for Bonser Lane Karuah.

  • Change Bonser Lane to a one-way street with access from Memorial Drive and exiting from Bundabah Street to improve pedestrian and vehicle safety.
  • The one-way direction was selected to run west from Memorial Drive to Bundabah Street in order to allow for parents to drop children at Karuah Public School on the same side as the school and to limit pedestrians crossing Bonser Lane.
  • This one-way direction also enables children to exit from the safe side of the car when accessing the school.

Background
Community concerns were raised about the safety of Bonser Lane road usage. As a result, Port Stephens Local Traffic Committee representatives from Council, Local Members of NSW Parliament, Police and RMS inspected the site in 2018.

Following the inspection the committee requested that Council consult with the local community regarding the proposal of establishing one-way traffic flow to improve the safety of Bonser Lane.
