Soldiers Point, Lancaster Park Off-Leash Dog Exercise Area

Consultation has concluded

Background
Port Stephens Council conducted community consultation from 23 July to 26 August 2018 regarding the possibility of making a new off-leash area for dogs in Soldiers Point.
The feedback from the community was reviewed and Council resolved to adopt Lancaster Park as a fenced off-leash dog exercise area with off-leash area time restricted to 7.00 am to 7.00 pm.

Benefits of Dog Parks
Dog parks provide a public, recreational space for pets and their owners to safely interact with other animals and members of the community. They provide people with the opportunity for social contact, improving social cohesion within a community.

It is the intention that the provision of a dog park will reduce the likelihood of dog owners letting their dogs off-leash in regulated areas which can impede on the recreational enjoyment of residents and park users.
The off-leash dog park will be cost-free to visitors, enabling it as an affordable recreational activity. A secure fenced area will provide a controlled environment for off leash dogs.

Design considerations
• Maintain a buffer of 10m off adjoining residential boundaries.
• Ulitilise natural fence materials to compliment the character of the site.
• Double gate entry points.
• Install compliance signage.

Construction details
Mid-April 2019 - June 2019
